Van de Graaff Generator
What happened;
During this lab, we had to step on Styrofoam to prevent grounding, where the electrons transfer to the floor. When you step on the ground and touch someone after being charged up, it creates a stronger shock since the electrons have the floor as a target. But, passing static electricity in a chain reaction becomes not effective since electrons take the shortest passage.
Touching a metallic object, such as the sink, when charged up your body will receive a shock, which can be painful. When you get near the water it bends, because water is neutral (positive), and you are grabbing negative electrons which makes the water bend towards your hand/finger.

Quote
I think this is a worthy quote because it gives me motivation. In my life, I’ve come across people telling me I can’t do this, or can’t do that, and it brings me down. Reading this quote just tells me to stand up for what I want or what I want to do. By saying “watch me” it just gives me the strength to show what I’m made of, and prove to people that say “you can’t do that” that I can.

3 Things...
There are 3 top things that I am good at; the first thing I am good at is using programs on the computer such as, Word, Power Point, Photoshop, Sony Vegas, and iTunes. I know the basics of all of them and I can use them easily without needing help. Another thing I’m good at is blogging, such as blogging photos, videos and word posts. I also know how to customize my blog and make it my own. The last of the 3 things I’m good at is that I know how to transform DNA strands to RNA strands as well as transform RNA to protein.
There are 3 things that I’m struggling with/still learning about; The first thing that I would say I’m struggling with is Mitosis, I get the basics and I know what each step is called. I’m just not completely sure about what happens in each step. I am also struggling with asexual reproduction, with the different types and what they each do. The last thing I would say that I’m still learning/struggling with is new online sites and programs, I’m learning about new programs and sites and how to use them, mostly everyday such as Prezi, Delicious, Wiki, and more.

Mitosis
Mitosis is the division of cells. This cell cycle (Mitosis) produces two identical daughter cells. It consists of many steps, the first step being Interphase then going through Prophase, Prometaphase, Metaphase, Anaphase, Telophase, Cytokinesis, then back to Interphase.
Mitosis is important because with Mitosis it gives our cells ability to replace themselves when we are hurt or ill. Mitosis happens in our bodies 24 hours a day.
From the beginning of Mitosis the chromosomes stay they’re original amount, 46, from the mother cell. They then begin to double during Mitosis creating 92, which then split in half and 46 go to each identical daughter cells.

Pros & Cons; Chrome Web Browser
Now Google Chrome, one of the many pros of Chrome is that it has easy access to where you last left off, it remembers the tabs/pages before you closed Chrome. You can customize Chrome to your own liking with backgrounds and bookmarking. Bookmarking is easy to do and reach. It also comes with a download bar, which is easy to outlook on downloads and has easy access to them. It has easy tabbing and is easy to change pages instantly. It is one of the fastest browsers out there.
Chrome has cons such as the fact that privacy isn’t that well since Chrome is coming from Google. As well as the fact that animated GIF files are slow for viewing.
Pros & Cons; Safari Web Browser
One of Safari’s biggest pros is that it works the best with a Mac, not to mention that it already gets included with the Mac. Safari opens easy dragging of tabs into other windows and you are able to resize windows. Adding bookmarks is easy, which adds to easy navigation.
A con of Safari is that the close button is on the opposite side of the window, which makes it confusing to a new user of Safari, like a PC user. You cannot personalize Safari to your liking unfortunately, which brings to the fact that it does not remember pages for easy access to where you left off last.
Pros & Cons; Explorer Web Browser
Internet Explorer, our top web browser. Explorer has pros, with its compatibility with any kind of website it makes it have easy access to just about anyone. Explorer comes with PCs which has no downloading involved, even though explorer has fast downloading. Also the fact that Explorer works best with PCs, is not news to anyone who uses it.
Explorer does have cons though; it’s probably the oldest web browser, which makes it one of the slowest. It tends to crash and it needs a ton of memory space. It’s not as safe or powerful then the other web browsers which also leads to the fact that Explorer usually needs to be updated, which is a pain to remember.
Pros & Cons; Firefox Web Browser
Moving on to Firefox, this browser has many pros, with customization to your liking with background and top sites. It is reported to be the fastest browser when it comes to downloading files, this also comes with a record of all downloads in a new window. That leads to easy removing, moving and access to downloads fast. Firefox comes with advanced security, with protection for your computer from spyware and viruses, which leads to a popup blocker that stops you from running into a site with spyware and viruses. This particular browser allows you to open an unlimited number of pages in a window, which has embedded memory, to easy return yourself to pages you accidently closed.
But, Firefox also has cons, like freezing and closing occasionally. Firefox takes up a lot of memory space just so it can run. Websites running from this browser sometimes do not show properly, the sites are usually ones that run with ActiveX and VBScript. As well as, downloads that are interrupted or stopped don’t resume, you have to restart the download. Which is why, Firefox is mostly recommended to people with high-speed internet and lots of memory space.
Pros & Cons; Opera Web Browser
Opera web browser has many pros, such as easy access to browser features and settings. It also has visual pictures of tabs when scrolled over, you can also easily return to closed/accidently closed tabs from the last time used. You are also able to customize the main page with your choice of background, layout and top sites. With easy access to bookmarks, downloads, browser history and many other features, it’s easy to roam around fast. It is also used to easily sync, share, and transfer bookmarks, top sites, and sharing content to friends without upload as well as share, sync, and transfer to other computers. The ability to boost browsing speed on crowded Wi-Fi hotspots is very useful and very much needed for business or school work. If you have bad eyesight or just can’t focus on small/large print you can easily change the zooming options to zoom in or zoom out of your liking. It is also perfect for people who need and want faster browsing and internet access.
Opera web browser also comes with cons, such as using automatic updates, which slows it down, but you cannot cancel or leave download since downloading updates is necessary. With a slow internet connection downloading updates might be creating problems for yourself. If you are not used to new features and this particular web browser, I do not recommend using this. Go for a simpler browser, such as Explorer.

What I Already Know
Things I already know before I became a part of this class is how to use most Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.) I know how to use photo editing programs as well as video editing programs such as, Photoshop CS4, Sony Vegas, Window Movie Maker, Paint, etc. I also know how to use online websites such as Tumblr, Blogspot/Blogger, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc. I don’t know much about computers, I mostly just know the basics.
I’m Nervous About
What I’m nervous about is losing or damaging my laptop, loosing important school work by accidently deleting it. I’m even nervous about my laptop randomly crashing while doing important projects or assignments. Another thing is adjusting to work ethics and new people. Another thing I’m nervous about is my grades since homework and lessons are different from last year by difficulty and different teaching styles, which is hard to adjust to and get a good mark.
I’m Looking Forward To Learning
I’m looking forward to learning a lot this year. Getting into digital immersion just made myself want to learn way more about computers and gadgets. I’m really looking forward to learning how to use programs I’ve never even heard before, as well as getting to learn about using gadgets/applications and the right and wrong way to use them. As well as get the chance to learn about doing things faster on a computer/laptop. I’m also excited to learn more about online testing and doing notes and tests on the computer.
